Post-Operative
Care Following Breast Surgery
Advanced Breast Care
Once you are able to
tolerate fluids and your vital signs
are stable in the recovery room, you will be sent home.
It is important to
keep hydrated with fluids for the first
few days following surgery. A
clean
bandage will be covering you lumpectomy site.
Please leave this in place until your
post-operative visit with us. It
is fine to shower as your lumpectomy site
is covered with a clear bandage which is waterproof.
If you have a drain in place, it is
still
fine to shower as the drain insertion site is covered with the same
waterproof
clear bandage.
Please
call us if:
- Your
temperature is over 101 by mouth
- Your
dressing becomes saturated with blood or becomes wet after a shower
- If
you have a drain in place and it becomes clogged
- If
you experience nausea which keeps you from tolerating fluids or food
- If
you experience pain not relieved with the pain medication you were given
We encourage you to take it easy and
limit normal activities
for the first few days following your surgery.
It is important to maintain range of
motion in your arm on the same side
your lumpectomy was performed.
Always feel free to
call us with any other questions or
concerns you may have as we understand this experience is very new to
you and
other concerns may arise. Our
